Every journey to Sandbar Villas begins at Velana International Airport in Malé, where one of our hosts meets you as you come out of arrivals and takes you to our lounge. From there, there are two ways to reach the island.
By seaplane, about 40 minutes
The seaplane is the way most guests arrive, and for good reason: for forty minutes you fly low over the atolls, with reefs, sandbanks and the deep blue channels laid out below the window. The seaplane lands on the lagoon and taxis to our floating platform, where a dhoni brings you the last few metres to the jetty. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so guests landing in Malé after about 15:30 stay a night in Malé or take the domestic route.
By domestic flight and speedboat, about 1 hour 15 minutes
A 35-minute domestic flight takes you to Dharavandhoo Airport in Baa Atoll, where our speedboat is waiting for the 15-minute crossing. This route runs after dark too, which makes it the better choice for late arrivals.
What to know before you fly
- Seaplanes allow 20 kg of checked luggage and 5 kg of hand luggage per person; soft bags travel best.
- Transfers are booked by us once your flights are confirmed; send them to [email protected].
- The return seaplane transfer is Rf 17,000 per person and can be added when you book your villa.
