Three generations of our family in the Beach Residence for a week. The private chef cooked my mother's birthday dinner on the sand by firelight. Every detail was thought of.
The beach villa felt completely private: sand under our feet, an outdoor bath under the frangipani and nobody in sight. Service was warm without ever being in the way.
The omakase at Hikari was as good as many I have had in Tokyo, and the tuna was caught that morning. Snorkelling with mantas at Hanifaru with the resident biologist was the highlight of the year.

Sandbar Villas is a private island of thirty-seven villas in the north lagoon of Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the Maldives. Twenty-five stand on stilts over the reef, linked by a single timber boardwalk; twelve sit along a beach of powder-white sand, each behind its own screen of sea grape and screw pine.
Every villa has its own pool, and every main bedroom has a roof that slides back so you can fall asleep under the stars. The Sunset Water Retreats go one step further: a water slide runs from the upper deck straight into the lagoon. Floors are sun-bleached timber, bathrooms open to the sky, and one villa host looks after your whole stay, from the seaplane jetty to the last morning swim.

What's here
Check-in is from 14:00 and check-out is at 12:00. Seaplane arrivals are timed by the airline, so if you land before your villa is ready we will settle you at Tide Table or the spa. Late check-out is free when the villa is not needed; ask your host.
By seaplane from Malé, about 40 minutes and daylight only, or by a 35-minute domestic flight to Dharavandhoo followed by 15 minutes on our speedboat. Our host meets you at Velana International Airport. The return seaplane is Rf 17,000 per person.
Bed and breakfast, half board, full board or all inclusive. All inclusive covers every meal (including Hikari once per stay), house wines, beers and cocktails, the villa minibar, one snorkel safari and one 60-minute spa treatment per guest.
Our rates are shown before tax. A 10% service charge and 17% T-GST are added to the bill, together with the Maldives green tax of USD 12 per person per night, charged in local currency.
On flexible rates you can cancel free of charge up to 30 days before arrival; within 30 days, three nights are charged. Between 20 December and 10 January the free period is 45 days. Pay-now rates are not refundable.
