Sliding roofs, slides and stargazing: life in a water villa

What a day in one of our overwater villas actually looks like, from the first swim to the last star.

Sliding roofs, slides and stargazing: life in a water villa

Most mornings start the same way: the roof above the bed slid back, the sky turning from grey to pink, and the first swim taken straight off the deck before breakfast arrives.

The day

The lagoon beneath the villas is a nursery for juvenile reef sharks, stingrays and parrotfish, and you can watch them from the hammock net strung above the water. In the Sunset Water Retreats, the water slide gets far more use than anyone expects. Snorkel sets are in every villa, and the house reef is a short swim from the end of the boardwalk.

The evening

As the sun drops, the boardwalk lights come on low so as not to spoil the dark. Our villas are built facing away from each other, and on clear nights, with the roof open, the Milky Way sits directly above the bed. Ask your host for the telescope, or join our evening stargazing on the rooftop deck.
